Are you ready for some football?
The infamous line came to mind on the sunny afternoon of Friday, December 27, 2013 as the World Famous Budweiser Clydesdales had the prestigious honor of parading at the 2013 Military Bowl held at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, MD. This special day marked the first time the Military Bowl was held in the state capital and was made even more extraordinary when the magnificent gentle giants marched gracefully ahead of the parade.
Jack Lengyel, who was head coach in 1971 for Marshall and was played by Matthew McConaughey in the movie "We Are Marshall", rode on the wagon as the Budweiser Clydesdale hitch led the parade down the sunlit streets of Annapolis. The rhythmic clip-clopping of the beloved draft horses along with the energetic sounds of animated performers, cheerleaders, and featured bands created a lively experience for all those that gathered.
Maryland and Marshall fans came out to cheer on their teams, but before the game, they lined the streets and formed an enthusiastic sea of green, red and gold. No matter what side they were on, everyone was excited to see the Budweiser Clydesdales marching down the streets from downtown to the stadium. The cheers, applause, and smiling faces of the crowd let the cherished Clydesdale horses know just how much they are loved.
After the parade, the Clydesdales stayed on display so everyone could come get a closer look and talk to handlers about the majestic horses. The handlers happily answered questions about feeding, horse grooming, exercise, and play time, but of course the favorite question from the crowd was "Which one kicked the football in the commercial?”—just another way the Budweiser Clydesdales bring smiles to everyone's faces!
